a lovely present & more nz label love

has spring sprung?
it certainly feels like it today!

Victory Square

i arrived home from a walk with 'the rugrat prince'
to discover a parcel on the doorstep...
ooh exciting!

inside was something most fabulous indeed!
retro hot rollers from one funky mumma!

huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge

thank you to you Op Shop Mama!
i have been searching for a retro set of hot rollers for a wee while now :)
i have a few things i may have to send your way!

to finish off i have a few more made in nz labels to share .
i am thinking of doing a round up page of label love as there really
isn't much info out there at all about retro/vintage nz clothing .
watch this space...

(excuse the bad photo's from my phone)

this  skirt looks horrible on a hanger! but it's fantastic on .
it has 2 pockets and flares out at the bottom

ok - so i have a "thing" for ugly cardies!
i can't help it - i have quite a few.
this 'reno' one i scored for $1
i also have a cropped , burnt orange coloured cardie by the same label!

ooh it looks hideous in this pic!
i'll have to do some pics where i'm wearing my ugly cardies!

label love

a neat thing i saw over at the velvettes blog
is that she takes photos of labels of her ah-maaaz-zing dresses
so i thought i'd take some too.
there doesn't seem to be alot of info out there on retro/vintage
made in nz clothing
(or maybe there is and i'm looking in the wrong places?!)
so please if you know anything about any of these labels, or you have some of your own
lets talk about it!!

(excuse the actual garment pics - after taking pics of the labels my camera was running out of battery!)

The colour of this cape - is amazing! scored at opshop for $3!

Another opshop score for $5
This dress doesn't look like much on the hanger - but i add a waist belt and it looks great!
i love the sleeves!

This raincoat is awesome! i nips in at the waist and looks like a princess coat!
perfect for wearing over dresses with petticoats!
and yes another opshop of $2 i think - i have it for yeeeeears!

very sweet dress , has a pocket on one side!!
scored this baby for $4 and it fits like a dream!

this jacket is MY LOVE
it is so snuggly and warm and makes me feel like a glam starlet!
found on a retro rack for $15 - took it to the counter and the cute little old lady
made my day by giving it to me for half price!

last - a very cute label!
this dress is amazing! it has full skirt so i usually wear a petticoat under it.
it has a beautiful black and orange flower on the bottom right hand side.
my camera though was so out of battery by the time i got to this dress!

and i'm back... free bin friday

hello! how are you in your wee corner of the world?
i awoke this morning to a frost - nothing to bad though.
I found some photos of an op shop adventure i had a bout 4 weeks ago...

heart baking tray - $1

winter clothes and pj's for the rugrat prince - $3

cute & ugly mug - thought it might be crown lynn on first look - but actually says 'made in japan " on the bottom

that's right - food in  a bowl nom nom nom - $1

nana bag!!! $2 it does have a "house of g ' label but hey !!

awesome bag of wooden alphabet blocks and woooden train for only $2!!!!

i have also scored a few other cool things - loads of crown lynn including  THE BEST STASH OF CROWNLYNN PLATES TODAY...
i was just casually walking past the Red Cross oppy today and glanced in their free bin .. here is the convo that went on in my head ..
'oh look they are getting rid of loads of plates' ..' wait i know that pattern.'
'WHAT " they are getting rid of this!"
'Rummage and run!"
..
7 pretty new crown lynn plates

pretty pretty!
now i can swap all my plates over to crown lynn!!
op shop mama said i may be the free bin queen and well, today i certainly felt like it!

do you have free bins in your town and what scores do you get?
nelson has quite a few of them!

thrifted finds on a cloudy day

today the rugrat prince started kindy!
no tears from either of us and i got to op shop for a couple of hours ALONE!
bliss!

here's what i found today

clip-it container -$1, green plastic cake slice - $1
4 crown lynn plates - $1 each

yes , the 'crown-lynn-treasure-hunting-bug' has bitten me BAD!
the mr has said he doesn't mind if i slowly replace all of our crockery with crown lynn!
IT WILL HAPPEN!

feijoas - free!
yum, yum, YUM!
nelson has feijoa overload this time of year - i love walking around and finding trees!
the council has planted heaps of fruit and nut trees around public reserves that people can go pick.
these were free from the oppy - there was a massive box donated!

looking forward:
-starting bellydance this week
- bedazzling costumes
- photoshoots
- baking
- more solo op-shopping!

Collection Selection - Alice Books

i have been collecting alice in wonderland books for about 5 years, i thought i would have more by now but still i am pretty happy with this collection - i am always on the lookout for new ones ;)
i really love seeing how alice and the characters get drawn by different artists.
all of these books have been thrifted , that's the rule of the collection.

got to have a disney copy!

i quite like this cover!

this one is also very good!

a peek inside

this has the best find ever! $2 from an opshop - i have seen this online for around  $150

the pop ups are ah-maze-zing!

a mad tea party

the final page is quite spectacular!

i have loved alice in wonderland since i was a very little girl and have had countless mad hatter tea parties, my 24th birthday i transformed my friends farm into wonderland, and have even performed in an alice in wonderland burlesque show - as the mad hatter of course!

linking in with opshopmamas collection selection - make sure you go and check out other awesome people collecting awesome  things!

you give a little love and it all come backs to you

hello! wow it's really autumn now! brrrr but those glorious sunny days!
i have had a mixed emotion week and weekend... my sister and gorgeous niece have moved to a new town on a new adventure- sad but happy all at once.
the rugrat prince and miss princess cupcakes are only 2 months apart in age so they have really grown up together thus far and really love each other.
we feel lucky that skype exists in these situations as they love chatting to nana already so now can skype each other!
in good news i have made a new friend and we went on a crazy 'opshopping day extravaganza!"
it was pouring with rain but we bundled up the kids in jackets, prams with rain covers and off we went - neither of us drive so it added to the fun!
we met at my place and walked into town - hit all the opshops then bused out to richmond (half an hour from  nelson), then bused home again .. boy were we tired on the bus home....
 holding on to our cargo

tired on the way home

anyway here are the scores we got :

THRIFTY FINDS :

pink plastic dish .50c, green pyrex dish $1, orange tupperware funnel .20c, 4 plastic cups .50c.

oh yes, retro pyrex is my THING right now! it just keeps showing up !

i have a serious addiction to bags, like most thrifty females!
one day i will show my collection...
bags and purses were $1 each at the hospice shop this week! it was hard to get it down to just these 3 - but i feel i made the right decision!

this one is so pretty , very small though - almost like a document holder and it smells like little old ladies in a GOOD way!

some old fake flowers for a project i have going on - costume related ;)
the little lady in the st vincent charged me 5cents for all 3 - i said oh but there isn't 5cents anymore - how about 50cents. she looked a little confuddled - bless!

fake fur coat for only $5! whoop!

 so snuggly and warm

the piece de la resistance.... retro portable organ
it was $10 - but i'm giving it to the MR for his birthday (i'm safe posting it here - he doesn't look)
he is a muso geek - so this will be perfect!

LOOK AT THOSE CANDY COLOURED KEYS!

I also scored a pair of new jeans and a black skirt - $2 each but they are in the wash!
the rugrat prince scored a train for free from one of the little ladies in one oppy!
i did score something from the freebin's - but will leave that for tomorrows freebin friday post!

whew!
